1. Jessie Agnes 1870

Birth

Jessie was born 1870 in Mortlake and was was eighteen years old when her Mother died. Very little is known of her; one story is that she went with her Grandfather Lachlan on her Mother's death.

Marriage

She married a Robertson or Robinson in Melbourne as Jessie Glenn McKenzie. Mavis Rowan (nee Fisher) daughter of William and Christina (nee McKenzie) told that when she was young Jessie had left with an old Mr & Mrs Glenn and that her Mother and and Aunt Sarah had tried to find her in later years without success. She also thought she married a Robinson.


2. Mary Ann 1871 - 1871

Birth and Death

Mary was born in Mortlake in 1871 and died in infancy the same year..


3. Charles McKenzie c 1873 - 1904

Birth
Born in Mortlake (ref 4477) in 1873.

Marriage
He was engaged to Charlotte Edson, a childhood friend of his sisters. Tragically Charles died before the marriage and his son was born (13118) after he died.
See ancestors of Charlotte. Charlotte's wedding dress hangs in a display cabinet at Yarunga in Rainbow.

Children

1. Charles McKenzie Edson 1905-1963 (21529) aged 58 at Heidleberg. He served in WW2 and was one of the district servicemen who received a welcome home.

Death

Charles died 31 years from a burst appendix while being transported by wagon to the doctor. He was buried at Kenmare Cemetery on what was meant to be his wedding day.

Charlotte's grave at Kenmare

Charlotte married Lou Roll much later in life. She died at Rainbow on the 10th February 1976, aged 99 (4722), Charlotte left her home to a good friend in Rainbow. It is assumed from this that her son did not produce any children. Above is Charlotte's grave at Kenmare.

Birth and Death

Charlotte was born om 1875 at Mortlake and died there in infancy.


5. Sarah Christina 1876 - 1955

Birth

Born in 1876 in Mortlake. Sarah was around 13 years old when her mother died and she probably assumed some level of responsibility. A newspaper article said that she travelled with her father to the Mallee in those pioneer days when roads were being built.

Marriage

Married Jim (James Trentfield) Fisher who was born in 1875. The article at right must have been written about 1959.

Children

1. Olive born 26th March 1898, married a Prime, two children Trent and Marge
2. May born 1898 and married Roy Dunn. Children were:

(i) James
(ii) Barry
(iii) Worrell

3. Ivy. She married a Livingston. Their child was:

(i) Lois

4. Charles. He married Marion Murray from Ballarat
5. Sylvia Myrtle, she died 5th May 1908 aged three months and is buried Kenmare with her Uncle Charles McKenzie.
6. James, born 8th March 1911. He died in 1978 and is buried Rainbow. Married Thora. children:

(i) Kenneth
(ii) Trentfield
(iii) Dallas.

Sarah's father Paul came to live with the family in his later life. He died in 1914 when Sarah was around 38 years old.

Death

Sarah died at Rainbow age 79 on the 1st September 1955 (21491). Jim died 23rd April 1965 age 90.


6. Lachlan 1877 - 1934

Birth

Born in Minyip (ref 04087).

Marriage

He married Elsie Emma Maud Herring at the Presbyterian church at Beulah on the 24th July 1903. Elsie was born 15th May 1881 at Kaniva. They sold their farm at Rainbow and moved to Kilday NSW around 1912. The McKenzie family farmed around Ariah.

Children

1. John Lachlan born 1904, married Ettie Clarisa Alma Treloar (born 14th August 1910 Gunnedah NSW), at Ariah Park NSW. Lachlan died 1973 Cootamundra NSW. Children of John and Ettie:

(ii) Donald John m Val Newman, 6 children
(iii) Athol Douglass m Betty, ? 3 children
(iv) Lloyd Lachlan m Ann Morris, 1 child

2. Charles Leslie born 2nd July 1905 and married Mavis May Elizabeth (Dolly) Miller (later Firman) on the 28th Feb 1933. Charles died 16th Aug 1960. Children of Charles and Mavis:

(i)June Coral 1934 - 1980. Born 9th March 1934 and married Claude Clark. Their children are Kenneth, Coral, Peter and Michael.
(ii)Bruce Charles b 11 Jan 1936. He married Noelene Conner and their children are Stephen Bruce, Tracey Ann and Amanda Marie.
(iii)Glenn William b 18th Jan 1947 who married Gloria Blair. Children are Phillip, Donna and Jenny.

3. Murdoch born 27th December 1908 at Bow St. Rainbow, married Caroline May Humphreys (born Hamley Bridge SA) at Ariah Park 12th March 1935. Murdoch died 9th August 1982, buried Leppington (Sydney) NSW. Children of Murdoch and Caroline:

(i) Gloria Jean, born 20th May 1936
(ii) James Murdoch born 26th May 1938
(iii) Kevin Morris born 3rd January 1942
(iv) Douglas Keith born 10th April 1949

4. Neil born 1911 and married Kathleen Jean Miller (born 23rd December 1915 at Ariah Park, died May 1990 buried at Ariah Park) who was the sister of Charles McKenzie's wife Mavis.  Neil died in 1972 and is buried at Ariah Park. They had seven children:

(i) Lawrence Neil William born 23 March 1936, married Joyce Pellow, 2 children
(ii) Valerie Jean born 20th February 1938, married James MacGregor, 2 children
(iii) Bevan Leslie born 8th October 1940                                       
(iv) Beverly May born 8th October 1940, married Ray Dedini, died 8th October 1980, 3 children  
(v) Colin Lachlan born 19th March 1945, married Evelyn Stanmore, 3 children
(vi) Faye Lorraine born 20th December 1948, married John Ashley, 4 children
(vii) Jennifer Lynne born 12th June 1953, married Terry Reid, 2 children

5. Paul born 25th June 1913, married Ivy Wilson Ariah Park. Paul died in 1983 and is buried in Perth, as is Ivy. Children of Paul and Ivy:

8. Phillip James (Ron)born 1918, married Enid May Berry 1924 (born Ardlethan NSW) at Leeton NSW 19th October 1940. Marriage dissolved 9th October 1951 - no children. Ron died 1971 aged 53 and is buried at Ariah Park.

Death

Lachlan died in 1934 aged 57 and Elsie died on the 15th July 1964 aged 83 years. They are buried Ariah Park, NSW.


7. Kenneth 1880 - 1962

Birth

Born at Minyip (ref 24622).

Marriage

He married Lillian May McLeod (1887 - 1964, age 77). For a time they lived at Albacutya at Outlet Creek bridge where Kenny fished to sell. There are records of Kenny driving a horse and buggy in Rainbow as well. The family went on annual holidays to Merbein and eventually moved up there. Lillian had wonderful ability with crochet and embroidery.

Albacutya means bitter quondong - the word comes from an Aboriginal word that is similar.

7. Perry Garnet c 1915 - 1935. 14lb at birth! Married Ally (Alice) Kennett. Died on 24 August aged 24 years and is buried grave 160 at Rainbow (Pres). Apparently he died of injury from a football injury. He left a daughter Bernice (Whykes) who remembers how hard her mother had to work to support them in those days.
8. Murdy (Murdock). Married Allie's sister Mary Kennett. Murdy was quite a character apparantly. They had no children.

Death

Kenneth died in 1962 at Merbein and Lillian died in 1887, also at Merbein. They are both buried there.


8. Tina (Christina) Fisher nee McKenzie 1881 - 1970

Birth

Born 1881.

Marriage

Married Bill (William) Fisher at Bangerang in 1904.

Children

Tina and Bill had 3 children, but there is details only for one:

  1. Edna Merrit nee Fisher
  2. Mavis, she married to a Rowan
  3. Margaret (Maggie) married a Hoffman

Death

Bill died 13th May 1951 aged 71. Tina died in Portland on the 13th May 1970 aged 89 (19556).


9. Neil 1883 - 1918

Birth

Born Minyip (ref 18243).  

Marriage

He married Eva May Wills Ballarat in 1909 (sister of Paul's wife Rosalie).

Children

(i) Ivy Mavis b 1916 married Edward Ruddick

(iii) Angus Vincent b 1913 d. 23 April 1950

Death

Neil died on the 16th April 1918 aged 35.

10. Annie Margaret 1884 - 1956

Birth

Born near Minyip, Dunmunkle shire (ref 26337).

Marriage

Anie married George William Byrne 1904. They lived at Yaapeet and Rainbow. Read more on Annie and George

11. Angus 1887 - 1958

Birth

Born Minyip / Yaapeet (28136) in 1887 and was 2 or 3 when his mother died.
He never married but it is said that he courted many school teachers who
came to the area, without success.

Death
Died 29th October 1958 and is buried at Kenmare beside his brother Charles and father Paul.

12. Murdock 1888 - 1978

Birth

Born Nullan at Minyip (ref 31630) on 14th September 1888. He was 1 year old when his mother died and he was raised by John and Christina McKenzie at Sealake (his aunt and uncle. John was Paul's eldest brother). He served in WW1 and visited Scotland during this time.

Marriage

Married Amy Ackland at Woomelang in 1920 and they lived in Sea-Lake.

Children

They had six children


13. Farquhar McKenzie 1889 - 1889

Born on 18th October, a twin to Paul. He died aged 3 weeks and is buried with his mother at Minyip.


14. Paul 1889 - 1946

Birth

Born 18th October in 1889 at Minyip. Paul was 31 days old when his Mother died and was raised by an Aunt and Uncle. He served in WW1, enlisting on April 11th 1916 and on his discharge 21st June 1919 he spent 1052 days abroad out of 1167. He was wounded twice.

Marriage

He married Rosalie Wills at Sebastapool 27th March 1916

Children

There were 6 children.

Death

Paul died at Ariah Park on the 27th January 1946, aged 57.
